At Beyond Vision Center, our mission is to offer a premium eye care experience, from the care our doctors provide to the cutting-edge technology we equip them with. That’s why we’re proud to carry Neurolens: a recent development in the treatment of eye misalignment that is proven to offer immediate and long-term symptom relief for patients.
Lenses developed by Neurolens use contoured prism technology to help the eyes work together comfortably and efficiently by improving alignment. Improved alignment alleviates eye strain because the eyes no longer have to work as hard to focus together.
Not only does misalignment cause eye strain, but it can also lead to other disruptive symptoms like headaches and eye fatigue. With Neurolens, patients experience a considerable increase in not just comfort but also reading speed. In a recent study, Neurolens wearers showed statistically significant improvements in reading speed within 30 minutes, with continued gains maintained after 35 days of use. This increased focus and stamina translate to better academic performance and heightened productivity, making Neurolens a great treatment option for students and adults of all ages.
Like other lenses, Neurolens lenses can be paired with any frames available here at BVC, for both prescription and non-prescription glasses. Neurolens can only be used in glasses, not contact lenses.
Neurolens utilizes a special contoured prism technology that shifts what the eyes are seeing to meet their natural position, reducing strain on eye muscles. These lenses address visual misalignment at different distances with a gradual increase in prism power from the top of the lens (distant vision) to the bottom of the lens (near vision). This means that whether you’re putting a small amount of strain on your eyes while simply taking in the scenery around you, or an intense amount of digital eye strain while scrolling on your phone, Neurolens will correct eye misalignment. This type of prism gradient is not available in contact lenses.
Everyone’s eyes are different, and so are their unique misalignment correction needs. Our doctors use a special Neurolens measurement device to assess the patient’s precise visual misalignment at a variety of distances. With those measurements, our team will create a customized contoured prism lens to ensure correction and alleviate strain at every distance.
This level of personalized correction in lenses is a true game-changer for patients with misalignment of any severity. Improved vision and alleviated symptoms can be life-changing, especially with the modern prevalence of digital eye strain.

Correcting visual misalignment does more than just alleviate eye strain. Eye misalignment can overstimulate the trigeminal nerve, the largest cranial nerve, and the extraocular muscle proprioceptive pathways, which carry signals to the brain about eye position. This overstimulation is proven to cause chronic headaches, neck pain, shoulder pain, and more. And with the prevalent use of digital devices, increased strain on the eyes and connected nerves and pathways can make these symptoms even more severe.
Neurolens helps to address the root of this overstimulation by correcting eye misalignment. In a prospective study cited by Neurolens on patients with refractory chronic daily headache, 81.6% reported improvement after wearing these lenses, and nearly 70% also reported reducing their headache medications. Patient-reported outcome data in subjects with digital eye strain indicated improvement rates exceeding 75–80% for headaches, neck pain, and shoulder discomfort after approximately 60 days of wear.
This notable alleviation from painful, disruptive symptoms is significant, and Beyond Vision Center is proud to help patients seek relief with Neurolens lenses.
There is a common misconception that patients with 20/20 eyesight have no issues with their vision. This is false. Even patients who see clearly may still be experiencing eye misalignment and the effects of the associated strain. Undetected small misalignments can lead to prolonged symptoms like difficulty focusing, headaches, neck pain, motion sickness, and more. If you’re experiencing any symptoms that could potentially be caused by eye misalignment, schedule an exam with our doctors today. Even if you don’t wear glasses or contact lenses, you could still be a candidate.
Every patient’s misalignment treatment journey will start with a comprehensive exam here at Beyond Vision Center in Carlsbad or Encinitas. Our doctors use specialized tests to assess how the eyes work together. You’ll also discuss any changes to your vision and possible symptoms of misalignment, including eye strain, dry eyes, headaches, neck pain, and shoulder pain.
If misalignment is detected, strabismus or binocular vision disorder (BVD) are two likely diagnoses. Strabismus, also known as crossed eyes, results from a failure of the six muscles surrounding the eyes to work together. This causes the eyes to focus on different objects, sending different images to the brain. Strabismus can occur at any age, but it is most common in young children. BVD is a condition in which the eyes are slightly misaligned, causing difficulty merging images from both eyes. The muscles overwork to compensate, leading to symptoms including headaches, difficulty reading, eye strain, and double vision.
Patients diagnosed with strabismus or BVD may be recommended for vision therapy, a personalized treatment plan that encourages the eyes and brain to work together through a series of visual activities and specialized lenses. Neurolens lenses may be recommended in tandem with vision therapy, and can also be used as a standalone treatment for BVD in some cases. Our team at Beyond Vision Center will assess your goals and individual vision needs to determine your customized treatment plan.
Myopia (nearsightedness) patients with subtle eye alignment issues may also benefit from Neurolens to reduce the strain they can experience. As part of your myopia management, our doctors will assess the best type of lenses for your needs.

Our doctors at Beyond Vision Center optometry are ready to help you determine if a Neurolens prescription is the right fit for you.
